The Cannondale Transmission filter fix.

(many thanks to Cannondale27 (Steve) from Cannondaler.Com)

This is what you get: a screen type filter that engages the drain plug at the same time the drain plug threads

are engaging the motor case. No matter how you try, you can't be sure things are together right. If they are

wrong, you have a stainless steel filter grinding it's way through your tranny. Sucks.

On to the solution! Get a 7/16" spring made of .030 wire (or so). Slip an O-ring on the filter end through the

spring and get the whole mess stuck on the filter. (see picture, but it's harder than it sounds!) Trim the spring

about as shown. Bend the end down like I did if you care about such fine points. Drill out the drain plug to a

slightly larger diameter than the spring, and just go to the same depth as the existing hole.

Now install; you can see the filter end in there. When you put the filter in, you can feel around until you get

the inside end into the hole it goes into. When you put on the cap, you engage the spring and the whole mess

stays right in place while you tighten down the drain plug. No more trashed trannies!! Thanks Steve!!
